Coach Jim Montgomery of the Boston Bruins confirmed that captain Brad Marchand, who took part in the team’s morning practice, will not play in Tuesday night’s Game 5 of the Eastern Conference second-round series against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Florida.
The forward, Marchand, also missed Boston’s 3-2 defeat in Game 4 due to an upper-body injury he sustained from a strong push from Florida’s Sam Bennett during the first frame of the Panthers’ 6-2 triumph in Game 3. In the best-of-seven series, the Bruins are behind 3-1.
In 10 Boston Celtics playoff games, the 36-year-old Marchand had team-high totals in assists (seven) and points (10). Marchand finished the season with 67 points (29 goals, 38 assists) in 82 games. In 1,029 games, he has 929 points (401 goals, 528 assists).
