It isn’t a proposal. This isn’t a “mistake.” Not even a “controversy” exists here. as long as the Dallas Cowboys proceed “proactively” in their next steps toward a new contract deal for their star defense.
When it comes to monster contracts, it’s not precisely the Dallas way of doing things—a slow-rolling, “deadlines make deals” mentality that ultimately ends up costing the Cowboys more than would have been necessary.
But in Micah’s instance? There is a potential future risk that is nearly as worrisome as the contract itself.
Consider recent contract-related headliners Dak Prescott, Tony Pollard and Tyron Smith.
What is Dak thinking about extending his contract? courteous.
What does Pollard think about his deal and moving into free agency? accommodating.
Tyron believes the same thing? He has subtly made no attempt at all.
But when it’s Micah’s turn and it’s his turn, perhaps before 2025, when his fifth-year option deal will pay him $21 million—roughly a third of what he will undoubtedly believe he has earned—what will happen? And a portion of the enormous contract (let’s say $150 million over five years) that he will undoubtedly command?
No, we don’t think Micah will be publicly polite, conciliatory or quiet. He will be/already is buoyed by Chris Jones’ new deal with the Chiefs. If there is conflict? There will be a war. Waged in the open. And Parsons will surely come out the winner …
