The Golden State Warriors are in desperate need of some wins, having lost nine of their last 12 games … and having blown a pair of 20+-point leads in their last three games alone. Thankfully they have reinforcements on the way.
Golden State is hosting the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, in a late addition to the schedule after the Dubs were eliminated from the in-season tournament. That, in and of itself, is good news for Golden State: Portland is 6-13, with the fifth-worst garbage-time adjust net rating in the NBA, per Cleaning The Glass.
But the real good news comes from who will be on the court for Golden State. Reinforcements are on the way, as All-Stars Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins have both been upgraded to probable for the contest.
Both players missed the last two games, which the Warriors split against the LA Clippers. Paul, who is averaging 8.9 points and 7.3 assists per game in his first season in the Bay, exited last Tuesday’s loss against the Sacramento Kings after experiencing lower left leg soreness. After further medical evaluations, the team dubbed it a nerve contusion.
Wiggins’ injury was less concerning but more surprising: he injured his finger after slamming it in a car door. Been there, done that, don’t envy him one bit at all.
In the absence of two of the team’s best players, young guards Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski have stepped up, and likely earned bigger roles going forward. That’s the bright side of the injury news, but it will still be a big win to get CP3 and two-way Wiggs back.
