Scott Wright believes positivity is the key for Rangers as they look to end the season on a high by beating Celtic at Hampden to win the Scottish Cup.
Glasgow’s big two meet in the showpiece event on Saturday before the curtain comes down on the domestic season with both sides looking to lift their second piece of silverware of the season.
Rangers have yet to beat their city rivals in four attempts this season, losing three and drawing one, as the Hoops won their third league title in a row.
But the winger insists Philippe Clement’s men need to go into the game in a positive mindset and have belief that they can get the better of the champions.
Wright, who made a rare start in the 3-3 draw with Hearts in the final league game of the season, said: “There is so much competition for places at a club like this, and (the game at Tynecastle) is probably like an interview for the game next week and we are all playing for a spot, whether that’s from the start or to come on and help the team during the game and I think you could probably see that from the boys out there and the way they were playing.
“I’m just trying to work on my game, I came back into the team in the Dundee game, I managed to get two goals and obviously that is something I am trying to add to my game, to get more goals, and I’m just getting my head down and trying to help the team as much as I can and help us achieve success.
We need to go into the game (next week) with a positivity, have confidence and belief that we can get a result, it’s a cup final and whether it’s a pretty game or not you just want to come away with the trophy.
“The positivity and belief will come from the manager, it will come from the whole squad and obviously when we run out onto the field we get positivity from the fans as well, it’s not going to be hard to find positivity for a cup final and anyone who is struggling for it is probably at the wrong place because it’s important we go there with the confidence that we can get a good result.”
Wright scored the last time Rangers won the Scottish Cup, a 2-0 victory over Hearts in 2022, and he is calling on “one last big effort” to get over the line at the weekend and finish the season on a high.
He said: “It’s got to be one last big effort from everyone, whether you are going to be involved or not we have to make sure that whatever team goes there are ready to get a result and take home the trophy.
“It’s important for us to finish the season on a high, the league campaign never finished how we wanted it to and that was disappointing, but we have the opportunity now to go into a cup final and bring more success to the club.”
