This offseason, a reunion might take place.
Jordan Montgomery, the starting pitcher, is something that the New York Yankees would like to have back, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post.
From 2017 to 2022, Montgomery played for the Yankees for 5 1/2 seasons, making 97 starts and recording a 3.94 ERA. At the 2022 trade deadline, general manager Brian Cashman transferred him to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Harrison Bader, center field.
The left-hander has been outstanding since being traded by the Yankees. He also contributed to the Texas Rangers’ World Series victory the previous year.
Because of this, Montgomery has attracted a lot of interest as a free agent and is hoping for a huge payday. It has been reported that he is seeking a contract that is similar to Carlos Rodon’s $162 million, six-year agreement from the Yankees last season.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a superstar Japanese pitcher, was pursued by the Yankees, but he ultimately signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a higher salary. Nonetheless, the Yankees, who are attempting to reunite the 31-year-old with Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole, might find that getting back together with Montgomery would be a good backup plan.
Heyman continued, saying that it is unclear how committed the Yankees are to NL Cy Young winner and free agency Blake Snell. Now that Yamamoto is off the market, Montgomery seems to be their main option.
