The Miami Dolphins were aware that their victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday would need bold play-calling. They showed no hesitation, as seen by McDaniel’s decision to go for it on fourth and goal as opposed to attempting a field goal.
Although going for it wasn’t a bad choice, there were some unanswered issues about the play call.
The Dolphins decided to use a goal-line fade, with Tua Tagovailoa at the quarterback position trying to locate Cedrick Wilson Jr. in the end zone’s left corner. The play, however, was ineffective, and Miami was forced to turn it over on downs.
The fact that McDaniel has already discussed a decision he made on a play that was comparable earlier this year added to the intrigue surrounding this one.
After his team’s defeat by the Tennessee Titans, McDaniel said, “We lost this game for 15 different reasons, and I have my hand fully in that sh**,” on the fifth episode of HBO Max’s Hard Knocks. Yes, I did call a few fucking trash plays. That is going to f***ing occur.”
The coach has made it very evident in the Hard Knocks in-season debut that he does not hesitate to accept responsibility when something goes wrong, as demonstrated by the Miami Dolphins.
But after the Cowboys game ends, it will be fascinating to watch if he makes another statement along these lines in this week’s film review. particularly because it didn’t work out again with this one.
