JUST IN: Dissecting the Moves in the Brooks/JPP Roster

The Dolphins cut veteran Jason Pierre-Paul, who was just signed, to create space for Brooks on the 53-man roster.

After suffering a leg injury during the 42-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 6, Brooks had been sidelined. Head coach Mike McDaniel expressed his satisfaction with Brooks’ recuperation on Monday.

McDaniel remarked, “He’s gotten himself to a pretty good place.” Observing him on a daily basis, it’s clear that he’s a rookie. In the NFL, a season consists of numerous games. It’s rather lengthy. However, you can see players who are able to go from being, say, a rookie to, say, a man who is somewhere in between a rookie and a second-year player. Guys can rely on him because of his maturation and awareness of what it takes to perform at the NFL level. It’s a simple decision to have him up or activated because they trust him and value the strain and effort he brings to the squad.

Along with Jeff Wilson Jr., rookie De’Von Achane, and Raheem Mostert, Brooks will be the team’s fourth running back on the active roster.

In recent weeks, Mostert and Achane have received nearly all of the carries; nevertheless, Brooks provides them with an additional option when there is little yardage available.

Though the majority of his work was on special teams, Brooks looked good in his limited action before to his injury, rushing for 94 yards on 15 rushes, including a 52-yard gain in the Week 3 annihilation of the Denver Broncos.

When Brooks returns, it’s probably fair to assume that he’ll still be mostly utilized on special teams.

Brooks will be the team’s fourth running back on the active roster, behind Jeff Wilson Jr., rookie De’Von Achane, and Raheem Mostert.

Even though Mostert and Achane have been carrying almost all of the ball in recent weeks, Brooks gives them another option when yardage is scarce.

In his limited play before to his injury, Brooks looked terrific, rushing for 94 yards on 15 rushes, including a 52-yard gain in the Week 3 demolition of the Denver Broncos, even though much of his work was on special teams.

It’s probably reasonable to anticipate that Brooks will continue to see most of his action on special teams upon his return.

THE PIGNETS AND THEIR NEXT ACTION
Regardless of whether he is activated or not, the Dolphins have already used a “designated to return” move on Brooks, making him the eighth player to return from injured reserve in the 2023 campaign.

There is only one designation left for the Dolphins, and it is most likely going to go to linebacker Jerome Baker, who can return off injured reserve in Week 18. It’s also critical to remember that teams do not receive additional designations for the postseason.

This season, CB Jalen Ramsey, RB Jeff Wilson Jr., G Robert Jones, T Terron Armstead, WR River Cracraft, and RB De’Von Achane were the first six Dolphins players to return from injured reserve.
