Coach McCrimmon, a former NHL player, passed away in an accident. Among the 43 deceased were former players Demitra, Salei, and Korolev.
Brad McCrimmon of Saskatchewan was among the NHL players lost in Wednesday’s plane accident, which claimed 43 lives.
52-year-old McCrimmon, who had recently joined the league as Lokomotiv’s head coach, passed away, according to the KHL.
The Lokomotiv ice hockey team was being flown from Yaroslavl to Minsk, Belarus’s capital, where they were due to play Dinamo Minsk in the season’s opening game on Thursday.
AD McCrimmon, a Plenty, Saskatchewan native, was an assistant coach under Mike Babcock for three seasons until departing the Detroit Red Wings at the end of the previous campaign.
He held comparable roles with the New York Islanders, Atlanta, and Calgary. In the late 1990s, he was also Saskatoon’s Western Hockey League coach.
The sad deaths of Brad McCrimmon and members of the KHL Lokomotiv Yaroslavl Hockey Club have left the Western Hockey League and the Brandon Wheat Kings in shock, according to a statement issued by the league’s commissioner, Ron Robison.
Brad was a fantastic leader who had a significant influence on every team he was a part of, in addition to being one of the best players in WHL history.

After playing in the Memorial Cup with the Brandon Wheat Kings, he was drafted into the NHL in 1979–1980 and retired in 1996–1997 after playing for Phoenix. With 81 goals, 322 assists, and 1,416 penalty minutes in 1,222 NHL games, he was a player.
Following his stints on two unsuccessful Philadelphia teams in the 1980s Stanley Cup Finals, McCrimmon won the prized title with Calgary in 1989.
In 1987, AD McCrimmon was called upon to fill in for a number of well-known defenders who were either injured or decided not to play.
A number of NHL teams and the WHL released statements praising McCrimmon and extending their sympathies to his family.
According to a Flames announcement, Brad truly embodied the Flames organization. and “His daily life demonstrated his leadership, diligence, morality, and love for his teammates, family, community, and hockey.”
Brad, his family, and all the families who lost loved ones in this horrific accident are in our thoughts and prayers. His spouse and two kids survive him.
Other players on the club with notable NHL experience are 36-year-old Pavol Demitra. Following a 61-point season in 2010–11, the former NHL center started his second season with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
1993 saw Demitra make his NHL debut with Ottawa, who selected him in the ninth round of the draft. During his final stop in 2009–2010, he performed in Vancouver, Los Angeles, Minnesota, and St. Louis.
AD Demitra, who was originally from Slovakia, has a contagious enthusiasm and the capacity to unite people. In 847 regular season games, he concluded his NHL career with 304 goals and 768 points.
Two small children and his wife are his only survivors. Alexander Karpovtsev, aged forty-one. The former NHL defenceman and native of Moscow served as Lokomotiv’s assistant coach.
During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, he participated in 33 games for the team and scored six points.
Karpovtsev, who has played in the NHL for twelve seasons, had his best season with the New York Rangers in 1996–1997 when he scored nine goals and 38 points in 77 games.
Karpovtsev ended his NHL career with the New York Islanders in 2004 after being selected by the Quebec Nordiques in the eighth round of the 1990 NHL Draft. He also played two seasons with Toronto and four seasons with Chicago.
