Melvin Ingram, an outside linebacker who appeared in 17 games for the Miami Dolphins in the previous season and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times, was added to the practice squad on Thursday.
Alama Uluave, a 24-year-old rookie offensive lineman, was removed by the Dolphins off the practice squad in response.
With 22 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and six sacks, Ingram, 34, started three games for Miami. In addition, he recovered two fumbles and forced one.
The Miami defense, which lost outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips to an Achilles tear on November 24 against the New York Jets, can use him as an edge rusher. Following Phillips’ season-ending injury, the Dolphins acquired veteran defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to the active roster and are starting Andrew Van Ginkel.
After being drafted by the Chargers with the 18th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, Ingram was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2017–19.
He was a player for the Pittsburgh Steelers (2021), Kansas City Chiefs (2021), San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2012–20), and Dolphins (2022). Ingram has 407 tackles, 81 TFL, 57 sacks, three interceptions, 16 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns returned from fumble recoveries in 145 career games (106 starts).
