The rescheduled heavyweight bout between Curtis Blaydes and Jailton Almeida is scheduled for Saturday, March 9 at UFC 299. The fight was originally scheduled to take place in November, however Blaydes withdrew for an unclear reason, and the contest was called off.
ESPN announced the rescheduling of the fight, citing sources. The location of UFC 299 is still unknown.
Curtis Blaydes (17-4, 1 NC) wants to get back to his previous level of success. The 32-year-old Naperville, Illinois native was stopped by Sergei Pavlovich in the opening round of their April fight. The No. 5 heavyweight contender had previously won three straight fights, including a unanimous decision over Jairzinho Rozenstruik and a pair of stoppages over Tom Aspinall and Chris Daukaus.
Jailton Almeida, ranked eighth, brings fifteen victories in a row to the Octagon. The native of Salvador, Brazil, made history in November when he defeated Derrick Lewis by unanimous decision. The 32-year-old stopped Rozenstruik in the opening round and stopped Shamil Abdurakhimov in the second round earlier this year.
Sean O’Malley (17-1, 1 NC), the current bantamweight champion, will defend his title against longtime opponent Marlon Vera (21-8-1) in the main event. The latter prevailed via first-round TKO in August 2020 in their debut non-title match.
On Sunday, March 10, UFC 299: O’Malley vs. Vera 2 will air in Australia.
