Oklahoma increased its investment in Brent Venables and his coaching staff this offseason, with not only extending the third-year coach and providing him a considerable raise over the duration of his new deal, but by approving raises for the rest of the Sooners’ assistant coaches — multiple of them, in some cases.
Oklahoma’s Board of Regents on Friday approved a new contract for Venables ahead of OU’s move to the SEC next week, with the coach now set to make $8.15 million for the upcoming season. It also approved extensions and raises for running backs coach DeMarco Murray and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis, who will make $800,000 and $690,000 this season, respectively and remain under contract through the 2026 season. It’s the second raise of the offseason for both assistants.
It’s an investment from Oklahoma,” Green said. “They believe Brent Venables is the future of this program and is going to provide stability…Oklahoma’s administration hasn’t really given anybody a reason to doubt their system here and the way they handle coaches for the last quarter century.”
The staff then break down the commitment of 2025 wide receiver Emmanuel Choice before wrapping the show with the additions made in the portal by both OU Softball and OU Baseball.
“(OU Softball) obviously needed a catcher,” Jackson said. “Getting (Isabela Emerling) was a very big deal…You get an outfielder you obviously need (in Abby Dayton) with Rylie Boone and Jayda Coleman graduating out.”
(Cameron Johnson) is a huge get (for OU Baseball),” Callaway said. “This is a kid who was extremely highly-touted out of high school. Big, tall left-hander who can throw some serious gas and is nasty…He had 13 strikeouts in just nine innings (last season), which is a really strong number.”
