After signing with the San Francisco 49ers, Sebastian Joseph-Day now has the opportunity to earn another Super Bowl championship.
After being discarded by the Los Angeles Chargers the previous week, defensive tackle Joseph-Day’s arrival was officially announced by the organization on Tuesday. Joseph-Day, who won the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, provides much-needed depth to the interior defensive line, as Arik Armstead is still sidelined due to foot and knee problems.
Joseph-Day, a well-known run defender who has three sacks and eleven quarterback hits this season, is having an outstanding season as a pass rusher. He is a great acquisition at this stage of the game.
Joseph-Day found it easy to sign with the Niners after clearing waivers, largely due to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
“The Niners, in my opinion, speak for themselves. They’re an excellent company. They are well known to me. For me, Kyle is a no-brainer,” Joseph-Day remarked. “I’m just here to do whatever I can to help the team win, whatever that role may be.”
After head coach Brandon Staley, the former Rams defensive coordinator with whom Joseph-Day reunited by signing a three-year, $24 million contract last March, was fired, the Chargers let Joseph-Day go.
In response to a question concerning his dismissal from the Chargers, Joseph-Day said, “I believe I will keep those remarks private. I’m merely fortunate to be here. It’s a fresh chance. Simply said, I’m grateful to be a member of this group. That’s all I have on my mind at the moment.
“I’m just thankful I’m in a great situation with a great team and a lot of great players.”
Nick Bosa, the current defensive player of the year, is one of those incredible players, and he was eager to compliment Joseph-Day on Wednesday.
“I remember when we played him, back when he was with the Rams,” he remarked. In his team meetings, Kyle would make note of him. Therefore, when Aaron Donald is around, it’s a fairly nice complement if you’re getting mentioned on the D-line.
“Yeah, we are thrilled. I’m hoping he can rapidly figure out the plan and go out and make a contribution.”
In an effort to make up for their Christmas Day loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the 49ers are striving to bring him up to speed so he can play from the start against the Washington Commanders on New Year’s Eve.
