Former BYU superstar Jimmer Fredette is officially returning to Provo — but this time, he won’t be lighting up the scoreboard. Instead, Fredette is set to join the BYU Cougars’ coaching staff, marking a stunning and emotional career shift for the man once dubbed “The Jimmer.”
After more than a decade of playing professional basketball around the globe — including a memorable NCAA career, stints in the NBA, and recent success in international leagues — Fredette has decided to take on a new role: mentor, teacher, and coach. His appointment to the staff comes at a pivotal time for the Cougars, who are looking to build a new era of success in the competitive Big 12 Conference.

Fredette’s name is still synonymous with college basketball excellence. During his senior year at BYU in 2011, he captivated the nation by leading the NCAA in scoring and taking the Cougars on a thrilling run to the Sweet Sixteen.
