Considered for College WR Coach Position: Former Steelers Wide Receiver Hines Ward
Chris Karpman of Sun Devil Source reports that Hines Ward, a former wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a candidate for the position of wide receivers coach at Arizona State. Tuesday, one day after Troy Brown had visited the Tempe, Arizona, campus in search of the position, Ward paid a visit.
Zach Azzanni was hired as the wide receivers coach by the Steelers, and Ward was once thought to be a contender. Ward is a free agent on the market because, in addition, he was a candidate for the head coaching position at Texas Southern but was not selected for the position.San Antonio
As a result, Ward an unrestricted free agent, and some people began to speculate that he may rejoin the Pittsburgh Steelers to coach wide receivers. Prior to joining FAU and eventually the XFL, Ward worked as an offensive assistant with the New York Jets for two years while serving as a coaching intern with the Steelers in 2017.
Originally from Forest Park, Georgia, Ward played collegiate ball for the Georgia Bulldogs before the Steelers selected him in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He amassed 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns in his 14-year career, and he was a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame eight times.
